If add the values off all your cards and it is for example 15, you subtract 10. The hand’s total is only 5.
If the first two cards of a hand total 8 or 9 the hand is declared a 'natural' and wins (unless there is a tie between two naturals). If the total is not a natural win on either hand, another card is drawn for each hand to determine the winner. Those who win on the banker hand are charged 5 percent commission by a casino.
